- The Iowa Lyme Disease Association, officially established in 1997
is directed by a 5 member board. We are teachers, counselors,
naturalists, accountants, and government workers drawn together
because Ld has made a drastic change in our lives. Most of us
are dealing with chronic disabling symptoms of Ld and some of us
have loved ones suffering, too. We are all committed to
preventing the Lyme disease nightmare from happening to
another person.
Here are some of our
accomplishments:
1. Established the ILDA Advisory board; obtained non-profit
status in 1997.
2. Created Ld in Iowa Brochure; Lyme Disease Awareness
Activity Guide for grades K - 6th.
3. Distribute Ld media releases 2-3x a year; Created several
Ld presentations for Iowa audiences
4. Provide a web site; Lyme disease Iowa Patient Registry,
Fact sheets on Lyme topics
5. Published the Lyme Link newsletter; Established support
groups; Provide phone and email information services.
6. Network with other Midwest & national Ld organizations;
Member of EICS Emerging Infections of the Central States
